JAMESTOWN-JHS’s varsity football team will compete in Class A this coming season, according to a Tweet by Coach Tom Langworthy. Here is the Twitter message published at 8:04 Saturday morning: “I received word yesterday that our school “BEDS” # is 1024. The new cutoff for A/AA is 1025. Therefore, @JHSFootball1 will be an “A” school in 2018. Coach Terry Ransbury Dead At 89; Member Chautauqua Sports HOF

Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame member Terry Ransbury, died Jan. 15, at his North Carolina home following a three-year struggle with dementia. Coach Ransbury guided teams from Jamestown, Clarence and Silver Creek to undefeated seasons in the 1960’s. Born in Dunkirk in 1928, he graduated from Silver Creek High in 1945 after earning letters in baseball, basketball and football. He was named head basketball coach at Silver Creek in 1957 and enjoyed a tremendous tenure: His basketball teams compiled a 64-4 record over five seasons, including a 34-game winning streak, and won the Section 6 or Western New York...
