MAYVILLE-Walter “Waldo” Duprey is in the county jail Thursday after surrendering to multiple law officers Wednesday.
Duprey was reportedly barricaded in an apartment at 112 Eagle St., Fredonia, before finally giving himself up to Fredonia, Dunkirk, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies and FBI Agents who surrounded the apartment after learning Saturday that Duprey was likely hiding inside and probably was armed.
Fredonia PD initially received information that Duprey was sequestered and apparently trying to avoid arrest based on outstanding felony warrants issued by Dunkirk City Court, for robbery, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Duprey became notorious during the recently concluded murder trial of Rebecca Ruiz of Dunkirk who fatally wounded her boyfriend Julian Duman last July 6th.
Ruiz was found not guilty March 23, after a trial that included testimony that Duman, as a joke, pretended to be Duprey. This terrified Ruiz who had a violent history with Duprey and she blindly shot through a door and killed Duman.
