Wegmans and Tops are both in Progressive Grocer’s annual list of the Top 50 grocery retailers nationwide, but two other chains with local presence rank higher and one lower.

One of the higher-ranked is Aldi at number eight with $14.67-billion in sales for 2017. The other, easy one, is Wal-Mart, whose grocery sales rank number one at $159.8-billion. No other grocer is even close to that-Kroger at number two did 79.24-billion.

Wegmans sold $6.57-billion to rank 13, and Tops $2.86-billion was 28th, perhaps surprisingly, up from 32nd previously. Just behind Tops is Save-a-lot at 29 with $2.81-billion in sales.
