JAMESTOWN-Robert Overton’s brutal killing of his pit bull Champagne is just the latest example of his violent and reckless criminality.

Overton, then 36, was convicted of Arson for setting a fire at 518 Deer St. in Dunkirk just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday. April 22, 2006.

Police told The Buffalo News Overton previously had a domestic relationship with a tenant there and had broken into the upper apartment to set fire to the building.

Besides arson, Overton also was charged with burglary and two counts of criminal mischief. He served six years in state prison after conviction on the arson and burglary counts.

Overton served about seven months in a state prison in 2004 after a conviction for 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon.
